Hands-on STEM Learning with Think Fun Maker Studio: Winches Set #ThinkFun #ad

If your kids are anything like mine, they have already reached the stages of advanced summer boredom. Luckily for us school has started early, but for those of your still struggling to find something to do, Think Fun has a new line of toys to help kids build and learn. Better known as the makers of logic and educational games such as, Robot Turtles and Code Master, Think Fun's newest offering encourages kids to think like an engineer.

The Maker Studio Gears Set was by Designed by Engineers for Budding Engineers!
Maker Studio inspires imagination and a love for engineering, This set features "winches."  With the winches you will be able to build a tow truck, a jeep, a well and a crane. Each build also has "Engineering Challenges," so kids (and adults) can experiment with friction, torque and propulsion in order to engineer solutions to the problems presented. All you need is the kit and some items from your recycle bin You can even combine the three available sets (Gears, Propellers, and Winches) to make your own cool contraptions!

The Winches Set is ages 7 to adult and includes the following:

  • 1 Tow Hook
  • 1 Spool
  • 2 Long Connectors
  • 5 Short Connectors
  • 1 Medium Gear
  • 1 Small Gear
  • 4 Large Wheels
  • 4 7" Rods
  • 1 5.5" Rod
  • 2 2" Rods
  • 26 Hub Caps
  • 1 Hole Punch
  • 1 13" String
  • 10 Engineering Challenges
  • Instructions
Teenie building her tow truck, and the finished product.

These kits kept the minions busy building but also got them excited to learn more about how things work by using simple machines. I am pretty confident that we will be using this set again when we doing our simple machines unit studies! And when combined with other sets, like the "gears" set, can be combined with other sets to really stretch your creativity and your budget!  I love toys that can be added to or that actually grow with our kids. This hands on learning kit can be found at thinkfun.com for $19.99.

We received this item free of charge from Think Fun for testing and review purposes. Our opinions are our own, and have not been influenced in any way.
